  Q...Will the concrete ever crack?
A...Yes, hairline cracking may occur. All of our slabs are reinforced with the latest reinforcing technology. This propiertary formulation drastically reduces the chances of both structural and hairline cracking by providing a primary and secondary reinforcement.

Q...How heavy is the concrete?...Will my cabinets need extra support?
A...An 1 1/2" concrete top weigh in at appx. 16.75lbs. per square foot. Most floor load ratings meet or exceed 40 lbs per square foot.Any conventional cabinetry custom or catalog quality will support these countertops.

Q...Where can concrete be used?
A...Concrete can be used as countertops, tabletops, bars, sinks, tub surround, bench, fireplace surround, mantel, hearth, or just about anything else you can imagine.

Q... Can you cut directly on the countertop? And what if I were to hit it with a hammer?
A...Cutting on it will not harm the concrete (though your knife may be another question)but it may leave marks on the finish. Hitting it with a hammer we suggest anger management counseling.

Q...What is the largest slab we can make?
A...Generally 7'x3' otherwise it just becomes to heavy to work with, seaming may be required.

Q...When will I have to have a seam in my countertop?
A...Depending on the configuration, seams may be needed in a typical layout for several reasons:
Length of countertop.
An L or U shape design.
On either side of a large sink.
For aesthic purposes.

Q...How much can it cantilever without being supported?
A...No more than 10" with an 1 1/2" thick countertop.

Q... Can you use a concrete top outdoors?
A...Yes it is a great product for outdoors. Wonderful product for BBQ tops. But watch out neighborhood envy may occur.

Q...How do concrete countertops compare with granite on price?
A...That is a common comparison, and a difficult one to formulate. Granite is priced by the square or lineal foot and is not labor intensive to fabricate. Concrete however, is priced based on the complexity of the mold and the craftsmanship required to achieve the desired finish. We look at our countertops as a piece of functional art.

Q...How do I know if concrete is right for me?
A...At the David Jack Corporation we get asked this question often. This is what we tell our clients. If you want the same countertop as your neighbors and friends, go buy granite. If you want something that is uniform and mass produced, we recommend tile and Formica. However, if you want something that is unique and beautiful, something warm and natural, something created for your individual desires, then concrete countertops are right for you.
